The Folk Music Festival in Siglufjordur takes place in the first week of July. Artists from different countries take part in the festival, giving concerts, courses and lectures.
In 2005 the Festival won the esteemed price of Eyrarrósin for an exceptional cultural event.
The Folk Music Festival 2009
The Folk Music Festival of 2009 is dedicated to Icelandic artists and we call it “everything with sugar and cream,” because Icelanders are a “sweet” nation and really like
their thick cream - no low-fat nonsense. The first five days of July will bring musicians from various genres to the northern most town in Iceland, Siglufjordur, to give concerts, lectures, and
direct workshops. The final concert of the festival honors the rhyme chanter Steindór Andersen - he will be joined by many of Iceland’s best chanters, as well as the band Sigur
Rós, for the performance of Hrafnagaldur (Raven witchcraft).
The Folk Music Academy will be from July 2-4 and offers courses at a university undergraduate level, in Icelandic traditional music and dance.
